Confession Time...

Like I've said before I'm a proud nerd. Thanks to my daddy I grew up with a love of all things nerdy, Sci Fi, and of course British humour related.

This leads me to my confession, if I could dress Steampunk 24/7 I would. (If you don't know what it is look it up NOW!)

I mean the clothes are pure sex and the jewelry.....le sigh absolutely gorge! http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5558063 BONJOUR! I want it ALL!!!!

But unfortch anyone caught wearing those lovely things outside of a con, faire, or Halloween would be looked upon like a complete wacko. But once post apocalypse happens for real, I'll be ready with my killer steampunk wardrobe!

A Little Laugh For Your Hump Day...

Confessions of a Southern Belle posted this a couple of days ago. It made cry and snort -lol- Even after the BF informed me that "molest" has more then one meaning, I said they still should have chosen their words more carefully!

Halloween Challenge Update....

So, I ended up making the birthday cake costume cause I found the prefect skirt for it for $3. (click the pics to see a bigger version)

Here's the cost brake down...

Skirt- $3
Tank -$1 (after my Goodwill college ID discount!!!!!)
Candels- $.75
Headband- I used one I had but you can get a pack of 3 for around $4 at Walmart (so about $1.30 per headband)
Fishnet Tights-$5
White Opaque Tights-$5
Iron on Transfer paper- I used the transfer paper because I found a pack at home (it's about $8 for 6 sheets at Walmart) but you could also paint the words on which is what I had originally planned on doing.

TOTAL- $14.75

As you can see thanks to using some things that I already had I was able to stay well with in my $10-$20 range = ) I still trying to figure out what earings, bracelets, and necklaces I'm going to wear with it. Also I'm not sure if I want to wear no gloves, long white gloves, or short lace gloves.

For the top all I did was type out "Happy Birthday" in photoshop, flip the image, and print it onto the transfer paper. My original plan (before I found the transfer paper) was to use good old acrylic paint and just paint the words on. Either way it's the same level of easiness it just depends on what you happen to have one hand = )

The hardest part of this costume was the candle crown! I got so pissed at it I finally just gave it to my dad and told him to "make it work" -lol- and some how he did. So I'm sorry but I can't give exact instructions on how it was made. I'm pretty sure it involved at least 3 types of glue and sandpaper -lol-

My biggest find of this whole outfit was that skirt I already have plans to use it next year too! It's saying wear we with a Southern Belle or Marie Antoinette costume!!!!!

So what do you think??  (I'll post pics of me in it once I get back from vaca)

The $10 Challenge...

After talking with my Aunt (who has cruised over Halloween before) I found out that there a costume contest and people go like ALL out. Now, I LOOOVE Halloween and my whole life I've always had kick ass, cute, creative costumes. That either my grandma made for me or I made myself (I despise store bought costumes, they lack creativity and you know like 20 other girls are going to be wearing the same thing!)

All of this made me realize that I def need to step up my game and unfortch Rachel Zoe isn't going to cut it. I needed to think of a costume that wasn't only creative but was instantly recognizable with 90% of the population. After a lot of thought I've come up with 3 choices.

-Glinda from Wicked (the opening number "Bubble" dress)
-A Birthday cake
-A bunny coming out of a top hat

I also thought it would be fun to give myself a little challenge with this costume...I have to make it on a budget of $10 (well actually not really a budget but a range $10-$20). That is also how I'm going to pick which costume I'm going to wear--whichever one I can make for $10-$20 is what I'm going to be.

The only downside to this is I'm going to have to take less shoes to make room for my costume = (

I'll keep you all updated!!!!

DIY

So, my beloved Vera Pink Elephant wallet finally had to be retired (it was falling apart). But I just couldn't bear to part with it so I re-purposed it into a new headband!

I 'm sorry I didn't take pics during the process (next time I do a DIY I def will!!!)

Basically I took the wallet (which was a Travel Wallet in Pink Elephant by Vera Bradley) apart with a seam ripper and small scissors. Be careful when seam ripping though cause I broke my moms seam ripper during this process -lol-

After I had the fabric separated from the wallet base I took the lining (the pink fabric) and covered an old plastic headband with it. I used hot glue to adhere the fabric to the headband.

Finally I cut out the seeds and elephants from the outer fabric (this was the toughest part of the whole project!) and hot glued them on the headband.

That's it! It as super easy and took about an hour from beginning to end. I ended up having a lot of fabric let over, so I'm thinking of what else I can use it for = )

I Die..

So, this year Halloween (one of my fav holidays, I mean what girly girl doesn't love to dress up!) will be spend on the "Big Boat" (what my baby niece call the cruise ship). My whole fam and I will be setting sail to celebrate my sister saying "I do" in Key West.

This leaves me with a problem...what to be! After narrowing down choice I decided to be Rachel Zoe. This was the only one of my options that required the least amount of "extras" to be added to my limited packing space. (My daddy refuses to pay the extra bags fee!! He doesn't understand the my hair and make -up alone could fill one bag!! -lol-)

For me the only "extras" I need to acheive a Rachel look are a Fur vest and a Starbucks cup (thanks to us Americanizing the whole world I'll be able to get one when we dock in Mexico =p ) I already have fur vest (real and vintage thanks to my Grandma!) I can't wait to walk around acting like my fav stylist all day. It's going to be BA NA NAS!!!

Who are you going to channel this Halloween??
